Interesting.....the 21mm tilt seems to increase the farther it is away. Isn't it usually so at the edges of the photo and not necessarily in the distance? ---- it IS weird...I tried to repare some pics as many have a strange tilt but my friend has the same problem and I saw it on others pics too...Most of the houses and structures are tilted anyway...took me ages to get the tower of the church reasonably straight and I found out later that is was "very tilted" due to the soft soil it has been built on...LOL
Must be tough washing all those vensters. Geez......I just saw the date on this building. It's more than 100 years older than my country. Whew! ---- yes, and it is not even a very old one... You might find this interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Golden_Age =============== Cool link....pretty soon I'll be able to pass my citizenship test.
Taken from a bridge? or did you shinny up one of those poles? lol Cool kayak, btw. I LOVE to kayak and will be doing so next week with friend Bill. --- have fun! no, I took this one standing on one of the many bridges over the canals.
Too big a color difference between the sky and the rest of the shot. Too yellow below......or not yellow enough above. This one does not work for me. --- I know, but I did not try to make it look natural...I thought it might do well in a contest, they seem to like weird colours. =========== Good point.
Peter used to work here? How far is this from your home? or was this a while ago. ---- It is 30 km by car. Peter used to work here more than 25 years ago (but it is still same distance Mike ;)) and it was at a time most people had to travel hours to their work since there were not many jobs to choose from. That is different now...
Can you see the 28mm tilt at the upper left, top of the building. Also a bit of distortion on the lamp's left side. But that's to be expected at 28mm. --- yes, but it is very hard to correct as most of the buildings are very tilted...and I really had no clue anymore what was due to the lens and what was real...There is a picture a bit further that shows you a very narrow alley...we could hardly walk there as it was soo narrow....bit scary! =========== I remember that shot. Could be fatal if an earthquake hit, eh?
This is a cheesy photo...lol. I had some wonderful 2 yr. aged cheddar and some crackers with smoked salmon when my friends were here from Denmark. ---- sounds perfect! ========= Trust me......it was.
I see the relief of the fish.....does it have meaning? clearly it does, but I mean are you aware of the meaning? --- I know the stone reliefs came instead of the wooden signs pubs and shops etc used to have. The small streets were very vulnerable for fires and they tend to have as little wood as possible later in time... This one is called Crimpert Salm and the house was the guilds house of the Dordrecht salmon fishers. Build in 1608 , and the name crimpert was the name they gave the way salmon was treated: they hit it behind the gulls as they believed it turned the salmon into a more red colour.... ============ Ha! Ha! It took me a while to figure out what "hitting behind the gulls" meant. ROFL. I think you mean "gills." Gull is a bird....but you knew that and "I" and "U" are right next to each other on the keyboard so it is an obvious typo. ---- I knew that, I love the seagulls in scotland, they are huge! but it is funny eh...
I read your comment to Brenda.....are you sure it's not the other building that is leaning backwards? lol ---- I am very sure...they connected this one to a security line! This is a restaurant now: Grand Café Crimpert Salm - Visstraat 5 - Dordrecht ========== An......I just had an epiphany! That's why all the buildings are not so tall......ground is too soft to support the weight of a taller structure. I can dig it. They must have made some special arrangement for all the churches which are quite a bit taller. ---- well, the tower of the church in the marina is not finished because of that...too heavy! I thought it was because of lack of money but that was not the case! you are so right...and the tower is leaning anyway already!
Who did the killing? and the purpose was (what did the killers gain?)? ----------- all will be revealed! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_de_Witt ================ Very interesting.....both our cultures have had a bloody past.
How do they keep the basements dry? Pumps must be going 24-7! I think it's beautiful but this type of building would never make it around here......it would be "mosquito city" for sure. ---- I have no idea, I think they knew how to built it as they have a long history with water! I do not think they need pumps though, not under normal circumstances anyway! No mosquitos at all when I was there... ========= Want a few of mine? They are THICK around here. You have to keep your mouth shut when outside or you will surely inhale them.
I think it would be fun to canoe or kayak through these canals and take photos. ---- yes...I am not sure that it is allowed though, you never see one so I guess it is not!
The fisherman in me would love to give it a try....maybe a dive off the bridge for a good swim. Or isn't this swimming quality water? Salt? Fresh? ---- I would not recommend it...I cannot imagine that it is swimming water...so many houses along it...?
