That must have been before marriage Mike, I cant imagine to many wives letting you keep a jar of beetles in a fridge.......................lol
---
I would letting him have the beetles but NOT the tarantula! LOL

Wow I really like this shot. The angle, the lighting, the DOF all very good.
---
I must confess that it was not the fastest one I ever photographed and they really helps. When they start running it is a real pain!

Dear Viv,
Blush away because Mike is right, there is not to much praise here. You are THE BEST at macro shots for sure.

Did you fill the frame with this beetle or have you cropped it a bit?
----
I cropped away a bit on top and on the right to get a better composition...I guess about 1/10th of the original size. There was too much greyish in the pic.

Beautiful...in an ugly way, eh?
----
I think I see them with different eyes than most people do....I know a few people that are way uglier! LOL

Really nice. Are you sure this fly isn't dead? How are you able to get so close? I have a 90mm lens and I cannot get anything like this.
----
I am very sure...I have a series of this fly and it moved around pretty fast LOL
But I did crop this photo as I wanted to show the eyes at their best.
You can get this too , I have a 90mm lens myself as you know! I will explain a few tricks!

Very nice...I like the composition.
----
I was lucky here, it started to move around faster and I like the angle too.

Ours look this way after being sprayed with Raid. lol
----
no cruelty against animals here...it was running away here and I guess it was going a bit too fast...it fell over and I gave it a hand...but only after taking the picture of course!

Nice angle.
----
sometimes you are lucky with the background and the composition....this one was easy to get right

Who might this be? Obviously, one of the Scarab beetles. We have a similar form known locally as June Bugs (even though they are beetles) or sometimes May or June Beetles (Phyllophaga spp.). I used to catch them by the hundreds around porch lights on those warm, spring evenings. I'd throw some grass blades in a jar, add a few hundred beetles and keep them in the fridge. They would stay for months that way......excellent food for my tarantula, Matilda.

Interesting.....looks like its suspended in space not hanging on to anything.
----
when you have a close look you can see its little feet on the right of the leaf...I caught it when it fell from one leaf above it....

Very nice! I like this one a lot. What program do you use to do this.
----
very easy to do, I use PSP for this, it is not such a huge and complicated program like PS and for this you do not need too many tricks. If you like I can tell you step by step...
