I thik all people around the World must remember this Day! Even I remember where I was that day; I, my husband and youngest son came from the forest and I remember , how shocked my other children and some of their friends were, when we arrived home, this terrible attack was just happend.
My understanding is DE30s are diesel-only. This train probably originated from Hunters Point or LIC. Of course, DM30s could be used as well, as they are dual-mode. LIRR, always trying to be different.
From the 410 roadnumber, I assume this is a DE30. Are these able to travel to and from Penn Station under their own electrical power? If not, why would the LIRR invest in them when the DM30 was on its way, and they were still using FL9's for dual mode + the GP38 was still active as a straight diesel...can't figure this one out.
I wrote the question above, Vincent--should have left my e-mail address. Thanks for clearing this up and mentioning the station name. Again, swell shot.
This was the Friday-only Cannonball, originating from Hunters Point. The train did not stop here at Forest Hills, even though it was going down the local track. It was speeding towards Jamaica, then onto Montauk.
Swell shot of the two GP38-2's rear to rear with those great white "ribbons" against blue color scheme--unique to the LIRR. I'm trying to figure out the station name. This is a Diesel on a local track which is electrified. Why would it stop at this station which obviously has local-stop electrics. Nice work Vincent.
