Ford Intake Recall Documentation #1

1999 Ford Mustang GT, 4.6 SOHC. 2nd owner of car, so no warnings on the defect. Previous owner never had it replaced, and I don't know why. I am going to call the Ford Recall number tomorrow to see what they say. I saw a copy of the letter and it said "7 years from the original warranty, regardless of mileage". I will let you know what happens.

1996 Townie blew manifold via crack last night and this is typical American car problem---make a pretty car that rides nice until the warranty expires then she dies with cheap ill thought out parts--screw us....that's right...we keep on taking the punishment cause we are stupid enough to think they will include the term durability and quality in their products...I am fifty years old and I have seen enough...I am tired of being stupid...I won't buy Ford again....nor Chevy...and Chrysler is a complete joke---these people sell junk under nameplates that were once worthy of our hard earned money...shame on you all--this episode just makes my babied Towncar no better than a Ford Escort--now that's high class, Ford Motor Company, USA.

My Linconln Town Car also had a cracked manifold. The dealer fixed it for $1150. When I went to the dealer to pick up my car, I asked for the old manifold back. We went back into the repair department to look for it and there was some confusion as to which manifold was mine. There were several on the floor! I guess this is a popular defect. Add me to the list if there is a law suite. I used to buy only American cars but, with things like this, I really am starting to think Ford and GM want you to buy a foreign branded car. My next car won't be an American Brand!!!

The thermostate tested perfect, and the Ebay insurance agreed to pay the cost of the manifold replacement.

Add my 1996 Lincoln Town Car, with 41,000 to the plastic intake problem as of Sunday. I bought the car on Ebay two months ago from Florida. I did buy a 3 year, 45,000 mile extended warranty through Ebay Motors for $924. The warranty covers the intake manifold, but it looks like the Ebay warranty company may be trying to weasle out of it.

I had driven about 21 miles, and pulled out to pass a car that was running 45 miles an hour. Looking in my rear view mirror I saw both exhausts pouring white smoke. I am a retired engineer, and trained mechanic. I instantly looked at the temperature gauge, and it was normal. I pulled over, and called a tow truck.

Talking to the Ford garage in Warsaw Missouri, they told me the insurance company wanted them to check, and see if the thermostat is working properly. I know it was at the time of the incident, and should be now. I hope I am wrong, but I feel like they are going to try and weasle out of the claim. Hope I am wrong, and I will make a follow up post on the outcome of Ebay extended warranty insurance.

Same problem for my '96 Crown Vic LX. 126K miles and the intake grenaded, right behind the alternator. Ford dealer quoted ~$900, my local shop quoted ~$1200.
The Ford replacement kit was $600. Forget it. I decided to buy the Dorman aftermarket updated kit #615-178 (included aluminum coolant crossover, thermostat & alternator brackets) for $238.00 OTD Auto Zone rocks! Then had a local garage install for $300. Done deal...thanks Ford. Runs like it should now.
btw, many people don't realize this, but the 4.6L V8 is a Jaguar engine. When Ford purchased Jag back a few years ago, some engineers were touring Jag and saw this engine sample just sitting on a shelf. The rest is history.

AFTER COMPLETING THE 55000 CHECK ON MY 1997 LINCONLN TOWN CAR CARTIER, THE ENGINE STARTED OVERHEATING DUE TO LOSS OF ENGINE COOLANT. I TOOK THE TOWN CAR TO THE LCOA LINCOLN DEALERSHIP AND IT COST ME $1317.00 TO REPLACE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I ASKED IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL BUT WAS ASSURED THAT NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED BY FORD/LINCOLN.
DO YOU HAVE FURTHER INFO ON THIS?

My brother purchased a 1997 Grand Marquise not quite a year ago and his vehicle has almost 94,000 miles on it and today, he founded out he has a crack manifold. In the process I found this website. I'm pretty sure that the dealer knew there was a recall on these vehicles, and I believe we have the lemon law...wouldn't this be covered? need info

If anyone has a copy of the recall letter that was regarding 1996 Ford Mercury Cougar intake manifold please send to me. I purchased a used car from Maita Toyota almost 4 years ago and this week the car overheated. Got the car home and had it towed to a garage wher I was told I needed an intake manifold and this was a recall 7 years ago. So I bought a used car that had a recalled part. Can anyone help with info. Dealer said not there problem I don't know the owner I did not receive a letter because I am not the owner. Maita Toyota says they aren't either ? Most of the comments and websites do not tell you what to do if you bought a car and no one told you that it had a problem. Appreciate any help anyone can give

My husband just bought me a cream puff 97 Lincoln TC I wai like everyone else we thought it was a hose, imagine our surprise when we realized it was the manifold, his words "oh S*#! it's plastic". I'm disappointed in Ford that they went cheap and then don't stand behind their product. This should be a safety issue also. SHAME ON FORD!!!!!!

1997 Grand Marquis (25000 miles) with a cracked intake manifold on 04/24/2005. The vehicle is driven very little by my parents, and the repair bill will be approximately $800. A manufacturing defect that Ford needs to make good on for all! If any news on a recall, please keep me informed.

I have a 97 Lincoln town car. My intake manifold blow 350 miles from my home. I had to rent a car, stay in a motel for two nights. Cost was avout $800. When I got back home the motor had a click in it. I took it to the Lincoln dealer in Monterey. They said it would be $2500 to repair and I would have NO GUARANTEE on the work because of driving it with the broken intake manifold. It has cost me about $5000 by now and I still have an engin that is not as good as before the happened.
