I wouldn't say he wasn't a star. He just didn't run there a lot. When he did he won. This photo is from opening day 1981 where he won the 100 lapper. The year before he set track record in qualifying for the Monza 300 and won the first 100 lapper. Do believe he finished 2nd in the 2nd one and was leading the 3rd with a handful of laps to go before he got dumped by Gawlinski.
I saw that #3 Sontag car at the Racefest Auto Show downtown Joliet. That car was sharp both inside and out.

That looks 100 times better then a Sontag car. All they do is throw some puke green on it and a #5 and call it a day. These color combos actually looks good.
