What is a modern Zionism like? It always makes me sad when I don't understand everything:-)
=============================================
This is what happens when one takes an album description from Wikipedia on midnight. But I think that Wikipedia's definition of Zionism is quite correct:
"Zionism is an international political movement that originally supported the reestablishment of a homeland for the Jewish People in Palestine (Hebrew: Eretz Yisra'el, “the Land of Israel”), and continues primarily as support for the modern state of Israel."
It is common to define Zionism as the movement which started in the late 19th century, in Herzl's time. I think that the term "modern" is unnecessary here.
I also think that it's wrong to call Herzl "the founder of Zionism", because there were many founders. However Herzl is considered the founder of political Zionism (as Wikipedia actually says), that is, the movement who seeked for international support for Zionism (in contrast to practical Zionism, which focused on immigration and settlement in the Land of Israel, with or without international recognition).
Herzl was also a journalist and writer who detailed his Zionist vision in several books. We call him "The foreseer of the state (of Israel)".
************** A fine description, Orly! I was misled by the word "modern" and thought there are many kinds of Zionism. But now I understand what you mean, it didn't occur to me to look in the Wiki although I use it all the time! Thank you!
We don't have surf waves at all, some people go to stormy sea with a little board and just lay on it.. with a wet suit as it is very cold water in late autumn weathers..
Orly, I see that you had a lovely afternoon in the beaches of Herzliya, and I had a lovely morning watching your pictures. Thanks for sharing them! Now I'm motivated to visit Herzliya again...
