Is that a hole done on purpose, or some sort of damage it recieved at some point? I'm almost wondering if it managed to get shot at some point in it's life!

That hole was placed there on purpose, in the old days people would string them around their necks, ankles and also sew them to their clothing to keep from losing them.....In the case of this coin, it got lost anyway............MIllenniumdawg
