    The lighter colored band is "marl", formed by mountain water runoff. The water
    picks up clay from the mountains and turns a lighter color upon reaching the river
    or lake.

    We did see wildlife. However, most of it was at a zoo containing
    animals local to Alaska.

    Five Finger Rapids was a famous stopping point for those miners
    using the Yukon river to reach the gold fields. According to our tour
    guide, this area had a big traffic jam during the spring & summer
    boat migrations.
