Sorry, too big for resin. I can see having the sides laser-cut from 0.040" sheet and then adding vacu-formed front and rear panels, though. I'm still experimenting with these techniques. Bob
I don't think it looks bad at all. What did you use to make the panel behind the driver's door?
Rusty
Thanks Rusty, it's my first try at a fire vehicle. I scratchbuilt the pump panel you're referring to from discs I punched out of .030 styrene (a cheap "For Sale" sign)with a paper punch for the big discs, and a multi-head leather punch for the smaller ones, and some .020 styrene rod made into a T-shape. It's shown in another photo, before I painted it with Ultra Chrome spray paint.
Hi Bob, You recently replied to my enquire about building a Winnebago....remember? Anyway I have took your advice and now I am sure you were right, LOVE the models especially the bus, brilliant a man after my own heart. I am in the middle of building a Hummer camper, still sruggling on a colour, dont want to be to military would want it shoot to bits.... Regards Tony H
I Looked Over All The Pics And Noticed One Flaw All School Busses Have What Is Called Jersey Lights Which Are Amber Lights On The Inside Next To The State(Red)Lights And Are Used To warn Motorist That The Red lights Are Goin On
Hi. Was wondering if the roof is glued to the window pilars and if the roof is one sheet of styrene.Looks like a "rain" rail was added above the windows. My project is moving along. I have the chassis built and a paper mock up done but I am having troble with the roof.Any help would be great.
There is a flat part above the windows that the roof was attached to, then reinforced with a strip just under 1 cm wide glued to the inside of both pieces. This makes for a stronger joint. I thought about bringing the roof down to attach to the window posts, but it wouldn't be as strong as making up the sides with a header piece above the windows, and letting this harden thoroughly before attaching to the roof. But you may figure out a better way... And a drip rail was carved to a triangular shape and glued above the windows. Above that I masked off a stripe with Scotch tape, and brushed on some black paint to make a spear stripe.
Was wondering how the paint was applied and what colors to buy. Thanks,I hope to build a Carpenter/International.
That should be a fun project, lots of reference pics on the net. The proper colour is "National School Bus Chrome Yellow, Federal Standard 595a number 13432" but I used Humbrol Yellow #69 with a few drops of Humbrol Scarlet #60 added to the can. Basically I added red until it matched the colour on a small diecast school bus model. I prefer to use hobby paints, but I'm sure an auto paint supplier could mix up a spray can for you. For the black rub rails I used a Tamiya paint marker so they came out straight
