Area code 219 is Indiana. I moved from Indiana to northern Calif 15 months ago. I looked for an old large drill machine when I lived there. Where were you then? :-)

Photos have been delivered to Mr.Henry some time ago.

The spindle taper is #9 Brown & Sharp. There are new made collets available for it. They go up to 3/4".

Wells-Index is in business in Muskegon, Michigan. They have a ledger of the original invoices for when these were sold.

Sorry I'm just seeing your question now in Feb08.

I'll do a couple photos in the next week. Mine has had the power down feed removed and the brass cover that's on it just covers up the manual downfeed. If I remember right its a worm gear. But I'll do some closeups for you. Send me an email through fotki if you can.

Do you have any information on the Index Machine & Tool Co.? Are they still in existance? I also have a mill but don't know what model, and would like to get some info from them.

Hello, My Dad and I just purchased a model 40 Index, but it is missing the manual downfeed assembly for the quill. I was just wandering if there would be any way we could see what the inside screw and gear mechanism looks like on the head. Thank you! Jebb

"Parris-Dunn", not "Perris-Dunn"... Anything interesting on the second sheet (this is sheet 1 of 2)? Neat to see, tho - first time I've run across this information - thanks for posting it!

I grew up in South Bend, where Sibley Machine and Foundry is currently in business, and has been over a century and a quarter. In my high school machine trades courses, we had this exact drill which I used numerous times. Sweet machine!

Ha Ha, Good Question. I don't really know where it came from. I moved the Gravely and found it holding up a three legged table.

Uh Oh! Here comes that Pelfry Guy. Hide your guns, he has an eight ball in his pocket and he isn't afraid to use it.
