Very common on 52-54 Fords the hood hinges bend or break and the corners hit the fenders,MORAL :lube the hood hinges on a monthly basis,replacement hood hinges are pricey and not always EZ to find and they are a pain to replace.

my 54 is the same way, it was caused by the hood flying open beyond its lift limits,not closed and latched properly.
