Ed, It was an honor to have known you! I loved and respected you as a friend and fellow racer. You taught me many things at T.I., and I will be forever grateful. You will be missed by all of us, who you touched so dearly. It's hard to fight back the tears as I write this, but I am happy for you, that you were doing what you loved in the end. You beat me many times to the finish line, and now to Heaven! Rest in peace my friend.
I raced with ed in the 80's he was like a father to me at LACR Icant hold back tears thinking of all the good times we had together and am sorry my kids didnt get to meet him. god speed ed
Ed , you touched my life and I nick named you Pops for that , I will always remember your helpfullness , your friendship , your kindness , your knowledge and your smile , kick butt with the boys in the sky , Love you your little CLRB aka Moonie
Ed, I can honestly describe you and have always described you as such a "nice and funny" guy. You and Gary G. :) You are sorely missed by our family. We are happy for the good memories of you!
Thank you Mike for this album its amazing... and thank you all for your support and kind words... I picked this photo of him to post my comment on because that is his *who me?* look I remember seeing ...followed by a quick wink just before he would hand ya yer ass on the track .. My God I'm gonna miss him... He taught me so much ..Irwindale was the first track he took me to when I was a kid about 9 years old or so for a race .. I used to go out and help him work on the cars handing wrenches etc when I was a kid too... he taught me how to ride a motorcycle .. how to drive a stick ... how to race..he was my "baby brudder" (altho im 15 years younger) ... I will miss his Bedees and his hugs ....
Hey Mike, I think it's great that you put this together, Ed was a great guy and a hero to a lot us, he will be greatly missed. Branko Sindicich is the drive of Ed's car in this picture. I remember this race very well...
EVERY CLOSE FRIENDSHIP OFFERS THE SAME FUNDAMENTAL THRILL; SOMEONE HAS SINGLED YOU OUT AND CHOSEN YOU, SOMEONE WHO HAD NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO..RACE THE WIND......
For my favorite uncle: Racing was your Heart & Soul. It took your heart, but left a little bit of your beautiful soul for all of us to cherish. I'll miss your charm, your wisdom and the countless jokes. I had been bugging Ed for years to get me a new engine for my 66 Bronco. He finally delivered one month before his death and the Bronco is all apart waiting for the engine to be installed. It's very sad to know that I'm gonna have to finish this last project without you...but you will always be in my heart... forever. Thank You very, very much to all of Ed's friends for your kind words and support. His family will miss and always love him. Mike (his eldest nephew)
I only knew Ed though the stories his sister Becky has told me. He sounds like he was one heck of a guy, and will be sadly missed.
Mike, I hope you know how much comfort this is going to bring his friends and family in the weeks and months ahead, kudos to you!
My thoughts and prayers will be with all of Ed's friends and family.

I am very proud to say how grateful I am to have known Ed. The racing world has lost a truly wonderful man. I will miss his charm and wit from the front gate at Irwindale to timeslips where I first met him. His hugs and joking ways I will miss the most. I hope we have all learned a valuable lesson, that you need to be kind and caring those you meet each day as you never know what may happen. Hug and tell your friends and family " I LOVE YOU" daily. I love you Ed. Race on!

Jake realizing he is overwhelmed by the enormous power and might of Chevrolets, and is about to fall down to his hands and knees to pay homage. - - - - - - - - or was it just the beer?
As part of the drag strip staff I would first like to say Ed all of the track workers are going to miss you much. As for me I didn't really get the chance to meet Ed personally, but I did get those few minutes when Ed would be the first person in line at the registration window with tech card and license in hand when he would pass my window joking and tell me "I'll go to the pretty one" as he walked to Max's window next to me. The many times I did see Ed in the 3 years I have worked at the track I never once saw Ed with a frown on his face. Ed was always around giving people help or chating with everyone. Ed was a hell of a guy and was always having fun even when he was letting someone else drive his cars. I'm glad I got to meet such a wonderful person and I'd imagine everyone else feels the same way. As for Thursday the 6th, Ed got to leave this world for a much better place doing what he loved and even though that last pass down the dragstrip wasn't the straightest Ed was determined to cross the strip at the end of the track and thats exactly what he did. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Ed's family and friends. We will miss you much!!!

I am one of Ed's Biggest Fans every Thursday Night I would walk threw the staging lanes and say hello to all the drivers and when I'd see Ed he'd say "Oh Boy I get my Hug" I am going to miss those hugs and his smile. He was a Great Man and a hell of a driver. I am sad to see him go, but glad that God let him go doing what he loved most. God Bless You Ed I'll miss you see you in Heaven.
Thoughts of you are gently wrapped in little prayers...for heaven to smile on you,and angels to watch over you. May you rest in peace. Mrs.Carol Oberst & son Del
