I had a Haro Extreme Comp. It was pearl white with metallic purple splatter. Back in the day when Mountain Bike Action did a project bike with Yeti, I wanted that frame. It was simple in design and prevented "chain suck" with it's elevated-chain stays. I couldn't afford a Yeti, let alone a custom built frame. Then Haro answered my prayers with their Extreme series of mountain bikes. I purchased the middle range Comp with complete Deore DX components. First I put on an Answer Accutrax fork to sharpen the handling. Then soon thereafter, I installed an Answer Manitou suspension fork. Whoa . . . what a plush ride (for the early '90's!!). That bike was one of my favorite single-trackers. Though I was skeptical of major frame flex because of the frame's design, it probably helped soak up the beating I gave it through dried creek beds. Nice to see a Haro Extreme again!!! BTW, I just picked up another mid range Haro, a nicely mod'd '03 Werks XLS 2.0. The grandson of the Extreme!!
I cracked the frame because I was too heavy at the time.It cracked between the down tube and the front derailleur. But it was a good bike like you said. I have an Impulse that is the same size that I'm currently building up with parts from the Extreme. This time it has the original chrome straight fork with a GT flip-flop stem. Thanks for writing about your bike.
Bought my Rock Combo in 1989 and have commuted for thousands of miles on it since then. I need a new bottom bracket but can't find the Specialized 1/350x24 TPI !! Any suggestions are welcome.
I haven't seen any replacement Specialized bottom brackets except on Ebay. You may have to use an aftermarket set.Not sure what to recommend. Thanks for stopping by. Let me know when you find one.
Hey I just found bought this bike locally for an increadible deal. Just exactly like the picture and in near mint condition. It is a great find and a fun ride but not my perfect bike (70's Italian or french race bike). So I could probably part with it for a fraction more than I paid. email psurd008@yahoo.com if you check here again!
The absolute BEST Mountain bike i have ever owned. I wish i could find another one in mint condition just like it. Very dependable, All around excellent bike. Had it for 10 years, (6 of those years in active military service) and not one major problem, besides yearly checkups. I miss this bike.
