Another shot of the suspension bridge from the balcony of the Wheeling Inn. Notice the motion blur of the vehicles as they pass the close end of the bridge....
This shot was taken from the balcony of the Wheeling Inn. Shot handheld, manual mode, using the railing to stabilize the camera. Notice the reflection in the water.....
These pieces were handpainted by Grace O'Brien, who ultimately became the wife of James Richard Flynn Sr, mother of Mary Catherine (Kitty) Flynn, Marguerite Cantius Flynn, Thomas O'Brien Flynn, James Richard Flynn Jr., Grace Flynn, and Irene Agnes Flynn. Grandmother to many, including Sister Mary Grace Flynn as noted above.
The Bishops Chapel. With the brigth blue sky and white puffy clouds, I had to get some shots of the chapel while the sun was in my favor. This is right next too the O'Brien memorial. Just the left side of the chapel, you can see the last two stones in the row of O'Briens.
Marguerite Cantius Flynn - Daughter of James Sr. and Grace O'Brien Flynn.
Before finding this stone, I only knew there was a child names Marguerite that had to have passed away as a baby. I had recieved baptism records from the church naming her the daughter of James and Grace. She was not on any of the census reports. While wandering through the cemetery, we came across the O'Brien memorial, and low and behold, there was little Marguerite with her grandpa Col. Thomas O'Brien and family.
This is a shot of the O'Brien memorial where Col. Thomas and family are buried, including his young granddaughter, Marguerite Flynn, daughter of James and Grace Flynn who died as a baby only 9 mos. old.
Her marker is the second stone in the line of stones facing the camera in front of the large O'Brien memorial.
Col. Thomas O'Brien was Grace O'Brien Flynn's father. A very prominent man on the Wheeling area during his years. James Sr. and Grace named their first born son after her father, Thomas O'Brien Flynn.
is where James and Grace Flynn lived. This home is located in what is known as Claytor. Originally, they wanted to call this section of town Flynnville, but Grace didnt believe that was a noble enough name for it and asked that they just name a street after the Flynn's. Notice the street sign, Ruby Ave and Flynn Ave....
James Flynn Sr.'s death cert lists him living at 20 Ruby Ave in 1943. Grace O'Brien Flynn's obit lists her living at 18 Ruby Ave in 1939.
This was shot through the chainlink fence. The three windows on the side of the building extruding from the main building are the admin offices and the wardens home. While taking this picture, the guard said there was someone in the top window....I didnt see anything.
Another shot of the main building at the Mount de Chantal. The orange brick against blue sky, puffy clouds, and bright greens really make this picture.
