Claude Hughes was my Uncle, married to my Mum's sister. I lived with them for three years in Carlisle and remember the lorries and long journeys my uncle made. He used to talk about Shap and other treacherous places in winter. I would sometimes go with him to cattle markets and he often dropped me off at St Gabriel's junior school with a full load of sheep. I believe he was the first to introduce an upper deck for the cattle to give them more comfort when travelling. I have many happy memories of those days.
