Hello,

Paul was my father in law. I believe he would have
gotten a kick seeing his old car looking so fine.
Thank you for remembering.

How about that , a picture I never seen before , my car together with the Lonely Kings at Paso possibly -94 ! The -55 Pontiac next to me belonged to Mike Ness . Driving from LA to Paso and back again in one weekend together with the other members in their customs were priceless .

This roadster has independent front suspension (a real rarity in the 1940s), and what appears to be a flathead Cadillac V8.

Im just finishing my 50 merc which is based on this merc,Not a clone at all but I love how jerry Left the merc bumpers and trim alone and even the early stages with the stock reworked grill. My merc also happend to be dick deans last chop before he retired. Im gonna debut it at fathers day show in pomona this weekend.I see Jerry has left a comment,I would love to talk with him since he inspired me to build my sled the way he built his back in 1949. If possible please let me know if I can get in touch with Jerry.

The current owner of this car is Dan Weaver Spokane Washington. The restoration was completed in 1999 and the car was at the 2006 sema show. It was in the buffalo milke booth and joe bailon was recognized as the creator of candy apple red. Here is a picture of the widow at sema . all photo's taken by me. The pictures are dark but I can get better pictures of it.

Doane Spencer's beautiful 32 roadster. Doane ran this a the lakes (the SEX is not a come-on, but apparently a new intake manifold he was running, if I remember correctly). The car also took the most beautiful roadster trhopy at the '49 Pasadena Roadster club reliability run from the Rose Bowl. It was later run with a Chevy V8, but then restored to original condition, and shown this year at the Grand National Roadster Show.

Ralph Schenk's streamliner, modeled after the famous "Golden Submarine," driven by Barney Oldfield. This car ran a Chevy 4.

Stu

One of the most famous hot rods of all time, Stuart Hilborn's streamliner, the first hot rod to run 150 mph, running Hilborn's first injector. The car disappeared, last seen in Nebraska, but someone has cloned a perfect reproduction of it.

Most of these are street-driven roadsters, but the belly-tank-nosed roadster in the center belonged to Ak Miller, of Whitter, CA. It was just for competition, and carried a Dodge body, powered by a flathead. Never figured why the square hole was cut into the cowl. Ak was a legendary hot rodder who died last year.

First, thanks for these lakes photos, I know this is primarily a custom site, but these photos are great!!! (and there are customs sometimes in the background. This odd car is Charles Dimmit's "Dimmitmobile," once a Lincoln, its top was cut off, the frame stretched, and fitted with a rear-mounted Cadillac flathead. I think that it only clocked 109 and Dimmit retired it. Give him credit for creativity, though, these guys were always trying something new.
