Well, your hair looks great! I'm currently transitioning and my goal is to make it 14 months...seeing your hair is a true inspiration. Good luck on getting your hair under control, I know it will look amazing :)

Congrats on your BC. My hair is the type that isn't meant to be "played with" on the daily either - this is why for now I protective style for most of the year. I believe most naturals can't deal with a lot of daily manipulation, so don't feel alone in that. With that said, I tried bentonite clay and that helped immensely with manageability. I could run a comb through my hair a lot easier. It also made it much softer because my hair was able to retain moisture so better. These things meant my hair was far less tangled and so I got less breakage. Send me a message in my GB for more info on it if you want.

Anyway, I also started to deep condition twice a week (I add oil to my DCs) and do hot oil treatments overnight (put a plastic cap on my hair to lock in the oil) to up the moisture. It makes my hair softer in the morning and I was able to cut down on co-washing 5-6 days per week. I just do about 3 days now. As far as protein goes, I henna every 4-5 months and I've just started doing egg treatments. That had cut down breakage so much. Regarding dryness, sometimes natural hair is just dry in the morning. If it's dry throughout the day even if you've moisturised and sealed that moisture with an oil, it may just be possible you haven't found the right products for you. When I first BC'd my hair felt like barbed wire. I found butters didn't work but castor oil was great - as was sapote oil from Anita Grant. What also works well is leaving a little conditioner in my hair after co-washing. I use Herbal Essences It's a Curl Thing (purple bottle).

I find that separating my hair in four (when I wash, condition, seal etc) helps a great deal to make sure it doesn't get tangled. I don't tend to sleep in braids any more because the manipulation was too much - I separate it into four, do loose Bantu knots and tuck the ends under.

Sorry for the long message. I hope this helps somewhat though. I think locs are beautiful, so even if you do go down this route it will still be a great decision to make.

Hey, hope you are feeling better by now : )(lol, to your t-shirt comment). Personally, this natural journey of mine has encompassed many things (mostly positive feelings). I think the key is to take things one day at a time as well as learning how to exude confidence (not only physically but mentally). At any rate, I know things will work out for you-just can't wait for you to see that : ).

its like your describing my hair! dont worry thats how my hair is, that why i'll never leave it in a fro everyday, instead i just weave it up! it does get easier to manage when it gets longer tho, so i wouldnt be too worried luv especially since your hair looks lovely! as soon as you get fed up of wearing ur fro everyday i say u start with the protective styles.
congrats with ur hair journey so far, you've done soo well
