My Dad (Lew Major, the one in the center with the Santa hat on) is AWESOME! He's been such a happy, loyal & devoted volunteer & crew member for Yankee!!
These photos were taken at the Breeder's business place where I bought my bird. It was called The Cuckoo's Nest. I couldn't find anything on them currently on the Internet.
I would loke to obtain permission to use this photograph in a book I have just about completed and ready for publishing which I have titled - A Detailed History of the most Famous B-24 in the US 8th Air Force ion WW2 - B-24H-15 FO 42-52534 - who do I have tp contact please - -- Perry Watts -- mailto:mailto:william.watts@homecall.co.uk
No this I believe is on Kadena and is in fact the Rawinson Site (Radar for collecting Weather Data) , my Dad was the head of island weather and the one who put all of us in typhoon conditions from 67-71.
Good eye, Mark. That would mean my boyhood home is barely out of the frame, off the nose. I can see Grand Rover Ave cutting across the right top corner, and Livernois Ave across the lower right corner. You should have been a Photo Interpreter.
I flew the RB-57A from 1969 to 1971 as a pilot with the 172nd TRS with the Battle Creek ANG from 1969 to 1971. All your so called "specifications" are wrong. Maximum Speed was not 610 mph but rather .78 Mach with tips and .81 Mach clean. Also, Cruising Speed is a little high because we calculated our speed in knots and not miles per hour (mph). Finally, your Service Ceiling is too low. It would fly to about 50,000 ft. with no problem. Finally, tail #426 was assigned to our squadron and I flew it regularly. It flew "crooked." If you want to know more about that, contact me.
Thanks, Dave. I will certainly forward this to the appropriate people at the Yankee Air Museum
