I helped build this car when i was a teenager. This car was one of the first 396/325HP Chevelles and was set uo for Drag racing. Shortly after this photo, the wheelbase was drastically altered and fuel injection and nitro was the way to go. The car ran hign 9's and 145 in the 1/4 mile for a couple of years. Bob Fulp built and drove it. It was an ill handling vehicle, but most of the first funny cars were. It was featured in High Performance magazine with the article written by Alex Walordy. I still have the copy.
I once owned the body of this car. It was raced out of Tucker Georgia by Joe Yaranni. He moved up to a Vega body and sold me this body in 1970. I already had a chassis and a rusty body I bought at a flea market for $250 with a set of 12x16 M&H Racemasters.. Everything but the bucket seat for $800! He sold the frame the next year for another $800! It was sweet, Ono was an aircraft machinist and a true craftsman. this thing had billet pieces everywhere, all the fasteners were grade 8 hex nuts. Everything was chromed or polished aluminum. I still have the license plate and the frame is on my BMW today.I was 19 years old and ran out of motivation, sold the whole deal maybe a year later and have regretted it ever since. I gave my friend the push bar from it several years ago. You never know what treasures pass through your life.
I have the magazine that came out in 1965 featuring the Slaton Shaker. I worked on the car and toured with it 2 summers. I was in high school. I was best friends of Skip Slaton. His father owned the dealership. i remember when the car was a brand new Z16 Chevelle. I scanned the magazine if you're interested. The last time I saw the car was 45 years ago sitting out back of a shop. I sold the hood with the scoop to a kid in high school for $20.00

This Is Fred Esparza from Long Beach, Ca. I built this car in 1966 when I Got Back From the army. I sold this car to someone in Huntington Beach. Does anybody know where this car can be located at. email me at mailto:mexexpress@charter.net I am now involved in racing a nostalgia 69' fuel Camaro (Blair Speedshop). It is good to see you are keeping racing alive.
Mr. Smith, please see my comment under the tboltfc3 photo. Also pastimemodelbuilder I would love to see you finish this with one of your monster paint jobs that I wish I could do!-Mark
I mastered this body for R&R Vacuum Craft in the early 90s. He offered it for a year or so. Don't know if he still has the mold. I gave the one copy of the body I had to a buddy long ago. Mr. pastimemodelbuilder you have my blessings to pass it on to somebody to cast or cast it yourself if you cast but you may wish to check with R&R first. I doubt he still has the mold and if he does I really don't see him bringing it back but it can't hurt to check. -Mark
